Eternal memory to Ivan Olenych

OLENYCH, Ivan

February 19, 1925 – March 23, 2014

Ivan Olenych, after a brief illness, died peacefully with his family at his side at St. Joseph’s Health Centre on Sunday March 23, 2014. Born in Radoszyci, Lemkivschyna and surviving the turmoil in Europe, Ivan met his wife Juliana in a DP camp in Germany. Dearly beloved husband of Juliana (predeceased May 20, 2012), together they embarked on a journey, over 65 years after the war, first to Rochdale, England and in 1957 immigrating to Toronto, Canada to build a better life for their young family. Loving father of Volodymyr (Luba), Roman, Iryna (Peter), Larysa (David) and Yaroslav. Adored grandfather to Michael, Christina, Peter, Andria, Ryan, Luke and Arthur. Dedicated family man, a proud and passionate Ukrainian, Ivan was a quiet and compassionate man who had a great love for and devotion to his family and his native Ukraine. Sadly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him. Family and friends are invited to Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St., Toronto (416-762-8141), for visitations on Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4 Bellwoods Ave., Toronto, on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 11 a.m. Internment at St. Volodymyr Cemetery, Oakville. The family wishes to extend its sincerest gratitude to the staff of the Ivan Franko Home for their kindness and exemplary care of our father. In lieu of flowers, donations supporting the Maidan in Ukraine or to the Ivan Franko Ukrainian Home for the Aged, 767 Royal York Rd., Toronto, M8Y 2T3, would be greatly appreciated.
